The Sport of Ice Climbing & Ice Climbing Equipment
What is Ice Climbing?
Ice climbing is one of the extreme winter sports that is
rapidly gaining popularity In the United States and elsewhere. It is
similar to rock climbing except that rather than climbing on rock
ice climber climb ice. This ice can be the ice flows of a
mountainside, frozen waterfall or a glacial fall. They will also
forge a route in steep, compact snow, and high mountain
ice. Depending on the ice texture and slope, ice climbers need to
utilize different ice climbing gear. This gear includes ice axes
and crampons. Crampons are worn on boots and are spiked to
help maintain footing and traction on ice.
Ice Climbing Equipment List
Ice climbing equipment will include a variety of items. A few of
the items you need will be ice axes, crampons, ice climbing
helmet and of course appropriate clothing to maintain body
temperature. The list below is not a complete list of the ice
climbing equipment needed but is designed to serve as a starting
point.
